Apple’s iPad Banned – Not Meet Meet European Standards

It has been a week that Israel’s Communications Ministry banned Apple’s tablet computer – the iPad.
Israel’s technology lovers are still up in arms. The customs authorities at Ben-Gurion International Airport have already confiscated 20 iPads so far.
According to Israel’s Communications Ministry that the iPad has been banned because it doesn’t meet European standards for wireless Internet devices.
Consumers whose iPads have been confiscated by customs officials have two options:
1. To wait until the ministry changes its mind,
OR
2. To send their iPads back to the United States and buy new ones when Apple launches the product internationally.
“Those who decide to wait will be charged a NIS 15 storage fee for every day their iPad is kept impounded” a tax authority official said.
Communications Ministry Director General Eden Bar Tal said that before the ban was announced, his staff had been unable to obtain technical information about the device from Apple’s Israeli importer, iDigital.
However, the specifications published by Apple indicate that the iPad meets both European and American standards. On this note iDigital the Israeli importer still refused to comment.
So now Israeli iPad lovers will have to wait and see which way the wind blows!

This sounds more like an internal security issue than a issue of standards. If I were Apple, I’d do a quick service recovery, offering those sincere alienated customers free shipping back to the USA.
Agreed, in fact I would also do the same.
Excellent post…..
